Beating Cancer at it's own game: Up Date on John 9 months later
9-4-2014
Just a note to all who have read my blog and are wondering what is happening to John who was diagnosed with a 200 gram mass most likely a sarcoma (soft tissue cancerous mass) Nov. 2013 that filled the abdomen from wall to wall and with some clear separation of mass and healthy tissue. .
John has improved greatly over the last 9 months I have put all of my efforts into being John's personal "bio chemist" creating treatments and finding what is best for his personal chemistry. The same efforts that were used in the creation of this blog was focused on John surviving and thriving and moving forward.
We canceled an operation in January 2014 and again in February 2014 for two factors one John was improving slowly but steadily and the fact there is little research on sarcomas and little success in treatments. Only if you are very lucky is a treatment created for maybe breast cancer may be effective. So no sure treatment, and if a treatment isn't found than there is not stopping the cancer from grows. With little options I voted for and John agreed to create our own treatment plan basses on some very good science. We discovered 5 ways of affecting the cancer and 4 ways all cancers have in common leaving them with a chink in their armor that would give us a chance to affect the cancer and not the healthy tissue. Major life style change has happened and a slow progression of abilities of strength and mind management have been developed.
Just looked at the scans from Dec 2013 and Aug 2014 to see "holes in the mass" maybe 15% - 20% with one area on the inside showing most of the mass gone, except the outside edge. A request has been sent in to have the scans evaluated to confirm what we are seeing.
There are many times I feel we are alone in our efforts that the medical community is designed around a cure while we focus on how to help the body to heal. They look to solve symptoms and I look to activate the body's healing process. Don't get me wrong, this is not about wrong or right, it is about finding the best way to have the best out come possible. The body is designed to heal and that process has rules to maximize it's abilities.
In the last 5 years have reactivated my mind to created question upon question and searching for answers that others missed because they did not have the same goal as me. I am thankful that I have been able to "step on the shoulders" of great ideas and to come up with my own way of affecting the cancer in a possessive way. I am thankful for the talents of many doctors who have made an effort, I find it saddest when asking qualified questions of options that some doctor's are so stressed they become irritated or anger and on the other hand there are those doctor's that do not know the answer and are not stressed by my question that the doctor's just say they aren't sure of that answer. A patient should never have to deal with a doctor that gets angry at questions after all it is just a conversation that is designed to find information that a better solution may become apparent thought the questioning process. I am thankful for doctor's who are healthy for they can solve problems better and more quickly even if they have to think outside the box. Doctor's have much to deal with in the business to help others, sometime I think the goal of finding the best answer instead of just an answer is lost depending on the doctor.
We have hope and still have several treatments not normally thought of and most likely never considered to try to knock out the cancer if the path becomes "unsure". Sometimes there are not easy answers and all paths have great risk of harm or death. Sometimes there really isn't a choice. Our chosen path and both of the bio chemists we consulted all agree if John had the operation last Jan or Feb. he most likely would not have made it off the table as the blood work indicated and if by chance he did the odds were not good the doctor's would have come up with a workable treatment for long term survival.
So please keep us in your thoughts and prayers we are successful in healing John, a win for John is a win for all. I hope you find your path that is best for you. Stay healthy and live long, enjoy life. I look forward sharing a "normal" life with John once again and carry with us all that cancer taught us making life that much sweeter. And for all who travel a path that has a disease or chronic illness I give to you my best and a a reminder the body is an amazing bio engine that loves to heal through support, faith and good science. Believe and good things have a chance of becoming possible. Thanks to all.
