Most of us know some one who has died from cancer or has been diagnosed with it. Or at least I think most do. I have known many who have lost the battle or had won the battle left with the scars from war. It seems there are answers that should not be over looked. Two studies are pointing eating processed meats may become a larger problem than gaining some weight.
12 hot dogs per month increased the risk of leukemia in children:
One study (1) showed an increased risk of leukemia if children eat 12 or more hot dogs per month. NO evidence that fruit would protect against the increased risk of consuming the 12 or more hot dogs per month. Other meats that were looked at were bacon, sausage, ham, salami, pastrami, lunch meat, corned beef bologna. The authors of the study suggested that fruits did not protect from the risk of leukemia with the high consumption of hot dogs.
Increased risk for men and women of mortality, colon cancer and red and processed meat:
A new study (2) consumption of red and processed meats for men and women led to a higher morality rate before diagnosis of colon cancer. The study also found if a person with colon cancer survived and continued with medium to high consumption of red and processed meats they too had a higher risk of mortality compared with low intake.. The authors of the study suggests that greater red and processed meat intake before diagnosis is associated with higher risk of death among patients with nonmetastatic colon cancer.
Final words:
Cancer can happen to anyone, however it may be more likely to happen to those of us who love there processed meats and/or red meat as the two studies suggested. There is always risk in this world we don’t have to find trouble at some time in our lives trouble finds us.
Looking at the whole picture always helps me make a better choice. Be more proactive we can all become just a little bit better and the more likely the negative results in life can be avoided.
