when they are still alive?

PET Scan today finally! John has never had one! New view, new questions to help lead us to new answers.
The simple answer is when a doctor runs out of drugs or ways to treat, the doctor has not more to offer and the patient is pronounced "TERMINAL!"
Why?
Hold on that may or may not be true if there are other ways and other answers that work in the real world. It always starts with hope.
No matter what, a doctor can leave hope in place that keeps the mind looking for answers that they may find within or at another source. Giving a small amount of control back to the patient and family to make a choice to look and do or stop and die. Heaven will always be there waiting, life is fragile and surprising.
The word terminal ends all thoughts of life and holds death high for us to fill our minds with, makes us just wait for life to leave. In someways this word is like burring some one alive and taking away a choice for life. After all we go though tons of pain to live or create a life if we have a hope that there is a chance. With no chance life is just full of pain for everyone.
Maybe a better statement is:
We have no other options for you. We are sometimes surprised by what people do and who lives and who doesn't.
This would never guarantee life but it does not insure death, it gives a last ditch effort to try and turn it around. Of course it would be better to start with the idea everyone has some control in what happens. It is more then a drug that creates healing in the body so keep hope in the pictures and real world answers may appear becomes vital for life.
My job as John's "bio chemist" and the love my life is to keep doors open, spending part of the 80 hours a week creating, researching and keeping hope and faith of healing alive in John.
To my surprise and delight John is again able to help me keep my faith and belief in place.

Last year was so much more difficult that it was me that knew there was a way, a door that was open for just a moment longer. I carried John though that door and now when I grow tired he has the strength to bolster me up. John believes and that keeps the door open wider.
Why did it take over a year for John's PET Scan?
Today was a new beginning in finding uncovering more answers which will create more questions to find more answers. Healing is a process. John's doctor's finally suggested a PET scan to see what was happening with John's large mass.
We had to laugh to ourselves when the nurse who was preparing John for the PET scan (a scan that will tell us how much blood flow and the type of cell that is growing or dying) and was asking question that most every doctor and nurse ask John or myself, How are you doing this? I believe we leave each with a new way of thinking to help others. John told the nurse the smaller mass is gone now.
The nurse left and in a few minutes came back to the room and said to John, "You know the small mass you eliminated wasn't that small, only compared to the larger mass is it small."
New questions filled the air and John and this nurse bonded to hope of new ways of thing and finding new answers.
The nurse:
How did you do this?
I can't keep from smiling when one of John's answers is "I have a brilliant wife that the biochemist we consulted with said I would have been dead with the operation and the only reason I am alive today is because of Cindy and her way of thinking. With doctor's and hours of research our only goal is to find real world answers, nothing else matters when you want to live."
John and I and all of Team JOHN have an opportunity to talk to doctors. We are unlike most every other patient they see. We do not expect them to have every answer, we expect them to give us their best choice, offer us more than a drug and to listen to our thoughts to find answers together. This freedom of choice and hope is carried as a part of a new history for each person to draw off of in the future.
Team JOHN hopes to create a new way of thinking of not terminal, but keep looking for answer and always keeping the hope alive so many can walk through the doorway to life and to thrive.
