Being wealthy may be unhealthy:
Rich may be heavier and may smoke more leading to possible health risks. How does the top 1% help America or the world?

My story:
When I was a young girl, growing up in California, I would be waiting at the front window of my childhood home watching for my aunt and uncle to arrive. I loved my aunt and uncle dearly, every time they would pull up in front of my home in there candy apple red 1968 Ford Mustang convertible I would jump up, run out the front door, cross the lawn and be there just as they were climbing out of there spots car, wrap my arms around them, give them a hug and say, “I love you!”. They precipitated the hug and words.
The worst part about there visit is they both smoked. I didn’t like it, truth be known they didn’t like it, but it would take another 40 or so years for both to stop. It would not matter being rich, it would not save them. They both died way too early one from heart, lung and kidney failure and the other a heart attack. I wished they had never started, they may still be with me today if they had. I also know it is difficult stop any addictive substance no matter how much a person wants too, they did the best they could at the time. There has to be a better way. It is too late for my aunt and uncle, even though they did both stop a few years before their deaths, it is not too late for the living.
Study show Global affects:
The newest study (1) funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation found some good news that the tobacco smoking and effects of second-hand smoke have declined. The group that is in need of more change are the high income mostly from North America and western Europe. . This group is still at the leading risk of the effects of tobacco smoking including second had smoke. Is this part of the reason why the 1% of the population in the United States is holding 40% of the United States wealth (3)?
Along smoking there is the challenge of high body mass index increasing globally that is associated with high-income regions with higher risk associated in Australasian and Southern Latin America, also affecting North Africa and Middle East and Oceania.
Is vitamin D part of the solution?
Studies show a connection between levels of vitamin D levels in conjunction with Body Mass Index (BMI) or smoking. Vitamin D as a large impact on the body to maintain heath. When something affects the levels it leaves a higher risk to change in a negative direction.
In one study (2) they found that tobacco use increased the risk of the body over processing the bone to take out the calcium leaving a weakened bone structure including some change to availability of sex hormone and most importantly the alteration of vitamin D levels.
In another study (4) they found a relationship between vitamin D and BMI in adults with an increased BMI associated with lower levels of vitamin D. The study concluded lowering BMI would also have a relationship to lower the vitamin D deficiency rate.
These studies, both are pointing to one possible factor is an adequate vitamin D level. A blood test from a medical profession is recommended to ascertain current levels of vitamin D in the blood. Consult your medical professional to find out more.
Final words:
If money is power and if money also has a side effect having a higher health risk when it comes to smoking and BMI. Being rich does not protect a person from being unhealthy. It may give them more opportunism to make poor choices.
It seems it takes money to make money or to end up in a position of influence. Where are the rich leading others? They can buy what ever they want and invest their money in what ever they want. If choices are made by one may have positive or negative effects not only for each person and possible far reaching affects globally.
Smoking is not necessary to live. Obesity does not have to be on a such a large scale and has a large impact on life. Both can be difficult or almost impossible to manage for some. Money is only a tool that gives power to someone or some project that could be used to help or hinder. How the money is used will give us all more or take away from us.
I would like to thank the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for funding studies that are trying to sort out the underlying problems leading us to solutions for the world to create knowledge for a the betterment of others.
There is always something everyone of us can do that is positive and will help, even if it is just a little. Knowing your vitamin D levels is a great start. Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars to create a world you will love to live in.
