“Boston Marathon hit with an Icy Finger of Death:
Can we learn from history to avoid tragedy?”
~ Cynthia G. Creel
April 16, 2013
My prayers and thoughts go to all affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon.
My story:
I sat watching a video clip of the Icy Finger Of Death presented by DiscoveryNetworks (1) telling a story of sea water that freezes releasing a super salty brim creating a frozen finger of sea water that is like an extension of death’s hand, hitting the floor of the ocean and freezing everything in it’s path including the star fish and other creatures that are too slow to escapes this touch of death.
As I sat and watched this extraordinary look at life and death, I thought this is life, sometimes no matter what, we can not escape death’s hold and yet if some of the star fish could have recognized the tragedy quickly enough that was about to unfold they could have had moved in time to lived another day. The star fish did not have the ability to choose what happened and those caught in the path perished while others escaped.
The Boston Marathon’s “Finger of Death”:
The Boston Marathon, the 26 mile race that shows the best performance of many from the first and last to cross the finish line or to the ones who did their best to attempt to finish is what the race is all about. All are moving towards a goal to be better than the day before. The “Finger of Death” does not take form only in the ocean, it can take form anywhere, anytime, or from anyone.
As I watched this video a text came in from a friend saying: “Did you hear about the bomb at the Boston Marathon?” (2) The events of the tragedy of two bombs being set off near the finish line, prematurely taking lives and hurting people, became clear that this was another man created tragedy. The perpetrator(s) “Icy Finger Of Death” reached out to those who could not escape. This is an affliction of the world, no place is special, no place should have an act of violence to send a message of “now that I have your attention, I am not happy.“ If we are lucky, the message will be clear, of how, why and who, to learn to better prevent or respond more efficiently.
This heart stopping event represents the United State’s ability to adjust and learn to counteract such destruction. It is only our ability to adjust to a new reality that allowed the preparation of emergency teams or the average person to take action to save lives without being overwhelmed. To be able to efficiently help to have a chance to save many lives. Tragically, some paid the intimate price with there lives and many paid with the loss of the unrepairable and now an unnecessary part of the body. Forever changed to a new reality.
Learn form history and move forward:
At this point we can only learn from what happened. Each will look at the event differently giving way to new ideas. The government agencies will analyze how they could prevent in the future and what they did right to prepare for or prevent another tragedy from happening. The victims will focus on healing and learn how to move forward changed physically and emotionally forever. The ones left behind, who’s loved ones that will not be coming home, or those who will be there to help the ones with a physical or emotional wound will be pushed to the path of finding a way to become comfortable in a new reality. The largest group are those of us who know of the tragedy from a distance we can now only helps through thought or actions.
The thought the “Icy Finger of Death” can strike anywhere is a reality that we can not prevent 100% of the time. However, we have the ability to affect the outcome in the future. Just like the many lives that were saved in the aftermath in Boston from learning from the past, there is much that can be done with many eyes seeing events and knowing what they mean and which actions might be best.
Final thoughts:
The Boston Martian’s bombing is just one event of many that are man made. We can not change history, yet we have learned to do better, our efforts in responding have been polished so well to save and yet we have so much more to learn. The determination of the good, that helps us learn what went wrong in history, helps us all to prevail in the long run. Many more could have been killed. Many more were saved. Prevention gains little attention compared to a dark reality of a bombings or shootings, yet it many times is be part of the solution.
The actions of many can save the few. The actions of those who looked on from a distance have a choice to help deal with today’s catastrophe by acting after the fact or to help deal with today’s catastrophe and possibly to help prevent the next tragic event from happening.
What we do to protect always leaves a risk of loosing one battle. The idea we are not just depending on the government agencies or emergency personnel to 100% protect and to clean up the damage gives hope for a better tomorrow. The simplest idea of being able to pick out the unusual is easily said, and more complicated to perform accurately. We may never know the why or exactly how, what we will find are new answers to help protect and secure this nation.
The one answer that would help the many to protect the few, which ends up protecting us all is to step onto the path of True Health. This path leads to a person who is more able to help then need help. It frees up those who are trained to help those who are not able to help themselves. It is a way to protect the life we want to live.
Discover a new world. Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars to create a world you will love to live in. I do and I like the world I am creating. Together we can create a better life to save many from the “Icy Finger of Death.” To live a life that helps prevents rather than has to help rebuild. Once again may all affected by the events around the Boston Marathon be helped to deal with this life changing event.
