My Story:
I loved the sweet bubbly taste of soft drinks. It was just something to drink with spicy food. No big deal. Until the day I felt like I was going to have a heart attack that was the day I thought of stepping on to the path of True Health. Once I understood I was close to having a heart attack, I went to the doctors and took my first steps and almost a year to completely change.
From American Heart Association's site(1)
New studies:
The American Heart Association presented (1) a new study from New Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) (2) at the American Heart Association scientific conference in New Orleans, that may link about 180,000 deaths globally to sugar-sweetened drinks with the Caribbean and Latin America having the highest death rates from diabetes possibly connected to the intake of sugary drinks. Estimates of about 25,000 deaths each year in the United States may be associated with the sugar sweetened drinks.
The American Heart Association also sited the 2010 Global Burden of Diseases Study (3) , where there was a connection between the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to $133,0000 diabetes deaths, 44,000 deaths from cardiovascular diseases and 6,000 cancer deaths. While 78% of these deaths were related to over-consumption of sugary drinks affecting the low and middle-income countries most often.
Final thoughts:
The bad news was I drank a lot of soda and sugary drinks, the good news is I was able to stop. There is no question in my mind I feel better today then I have in years. Sugary drinks may not be the full answer. It could be just a start. When I stopped drinking sugary drinks, I did not start consuming "diet" drinks that just seemed like I might not be getting the best deal out of that trade and those always tasted "fake" with a side of chemical taste in them. I do know many friends that think they are sweet and yummy also. I will take my clean, pure water please.
Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars to create a world you will love to live in.
