As I stood in line to check out I spied a candy bar, oooo so sweet and creamy. Under a $1, who could resist. It’s just one bar what harm could it do. I paid my money an munched on the delight on the way to my next stop. Instant happiness in my hand or at least temporary happiness, as soon as I had finished I wanted more. This candy was a product that was far from what nature provided with much added and processed. I was a willing participant to eat what was there, without a thought.
Today after being on the path of True Health for 3 years and about 35 pounds lighter my idea of good chocolate is changing. I look at the quality of what is being mass produced in the USA and question the motives of those companies. A solitary goal of profit misses the mark while a complex goal of a company with a profit and a higher propose would help avoid situations that bring us a different standard.
Around the world all companies must make a profit to stay in business, so why have a different product that is similar yet different for Americans vs. Europe? The company would not sell their product in either area if they did not make a profit. The question is if the law allows a different formula to be used then it is left to the discretion of the company to decide what they are going to offer to the public. If they take the road to offer a lesser quality product because it is allowed by that country does that make it right?
Now that I have taste buds that have come back to life and my body is approaching the normal zone, creating the correct chemistry to be self correcting, I see and taste a difference in the quality of the food produced.
Foods that I enjoyed, like most Americans, now taste like nothing, too sweet or too much like chemicals. I am not super human, just a normal working body. I have to be proactive in finding products that meet my high standard so I don’t slide back into being a “zombie brain”. It doesn't help when the labels on foods in the USA are so inadequate. Leaving off much of the most important information, leaving me with a choice of not to buy or to buy with the risk that the food doesn't reach my standards.
I have to question a companies motives when I find out that a company is producing different and similar products for the USA and Europe. In a company that produces chocolate it becomes their “gold” with the ability to change how much the “gold” is worth by the quality of the ingredients they create it with. According to Food Democracy Now Hershey produces GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organism) chocolate for the USA and a GMO free chocolate for Europe. Hershey also joined Monsanto, giant biotech seed company in the fight against Prop 37. Prop 37 barely failed on the election in November 2012 which would have required consumers being informed by labeling if a GMO is contained in the product or food. (1)
Due to the monetary support that allowed a one sided ad campaign to convince people to vote no. Together the promotion and the ads did work to defeat Prop 37 barley. Majority wins even if it is not the best for the public. Luckily here in the USA and California there are chances to make changes in the future. All that is need is money and support from the public. Change happens no matter what we do, when we decide to be proactive and understand the goal to help the most people change move us in a positive direction.
Prop 37 is only one item in California and the USA. There are vast amounts of issues around the world affecting billions of people. Until the correct changes happens be proactive here in the USA and in the world.
There most likely will always companies who only have profit as their goal that brings us less and takes more. The only way to get the message across that we will not accept what is offered and we want more from our companies is to vote with your money and buy not the cheapest, but the best you can afford. Reward those companies who are doing the right thing, it will help one and all. Just make sure the company you support is doing what is right.
