"Extra large living in nature: It's the best!" ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-30-2013

"Extra large living in nature:
It's the best!"
~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-30-2013

I hear that phase all the the time, "Extra large life" or extra large filling the blank. This years garden gave me the best answer of extra large, dark green leaves. They tell me things are going awesome underground and above ground and it is a good sign I will have what I want and "extra" large vegetable.

As Weight Watchers so proudly states "We live in an extra large world" I sit and wonder how much damage that statement does, that it promotes the idea a little "bad" is ok. Unfortunately the world is filled with lots of "bad" without someone adding to it voluntarily. Is ice cream only 6 points and ok to eat for dinner? Or because a food fits into a formula it gives permission for some one to make that choice at a weak moment?

An "extra large life" in nature is very different than one that is man made. It includes the very best and forgets the rest or speaks loudly that something is not on track. The question is, "Is anybody listening?"

Looking at the whole picture always helps me make a better choice. Be more proactive we can all become just a little bit better and the more likely the negative results in life can be avoided. Stand up tall with an upright posture and be proactive. The solution  helps to keep moving the best direction is to step onto the path of True Health.  Discover a new world. Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars  company you want to support to create a world you will love to live in. I do, and I like the world I am helping to create. Together we can create a better life for all to remember over their entire lifetime  Together we can protect what we have so we don’t need to live in a world that is second rate.

Will this be too little too late?

~ Cynthia G. Creel

My Story:

Again I have to report there just aren't the same amount of bees on the farm as there was last year. So far there are enough bees. Yet I have found some unpollinated  green beans, that’s right just the pod no beans inside. Very flat with no beans inside to grow.

It should be a red alert when 50,000 bees are found dead, yet are we doing to little too late or will we be able to reverse the effects of  what we have created?

50,000 bees dead and counting. Will there be more?

A massive amount of bubble bees estimates are over 50,000 died as reported by The Oregon Live (1, 2). The bees deaths were located in Wilsonville, Oregon, USA this month. The Oregon Department of Agriculture is confirming that the insecticide Safari. Trees had been  sprayed in a Target a local business's parking lot to control aphids by a landscaping company. Leaving Bee's dying in parking lot (video of bees dying)  Safari’s main ingredient is dinosaurian, a neonicotnoid a member of the nitro-group. Researches in 2012 show these types are more toxic to bees.

Now the Oregon Department of Agriculture is issuing a temporary restriction on 18 insecticides with the active ingredient dinosaurian which follow similar actions in Europe.

Final words:

It seems we are always taking the “easy” way out with short cuts that creat larger, more costly messes to be cleaned up. The time is now to change quickly before it becomes too late.

I do not use pesticides or herbicides on my farm. It takes more time but I know I am giving a “safe” place for bees to come and collect what they need. In return I get food a free as possible from man made mass destruction. Yes, I have had black aphids and white flies, gophers and such. There is always an answer within nature.

"Hot, Hot Summer: Death Valley at 130 + Help?!!!!?" ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-28-2013

"Hot, Hot Summer:

Death Valley at 130 degrees +
Help?!!!!?"

~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-28-2013

My Story:

Around 11 am I was on a ladder painting the side of a house and the the sun was already becoming hot. I didn't think it was that hot, until John came around the corner and said, "Come down right now!"
I thought he needed me to help him with something. It was kind of strange, not the normal way he would talk to me. As I stepped away from the ladder John moved me into the shade and handed me a glass of water.

I didn't even realized my body was having a major difficulty adjusting to the increase in temperature. My face had turned beet red without me even feeling a thing.

Luckily, I wasn't one of the people who are working in the sun and drop over dead from sun stroke or being over heated. I could have been if John hadn't rescued me. The end result for the next 15 years my body was affected by the sun, even at 70 degrees (21 Celsius) I had to keep my head covered in the sun or I would get a terminus headache. During that 15 years and beyond I now have no effects of that hot summer's day. Today my body easily adjust to the temperate change, hot or cool. I am thankful on day like today and within the next week  we are going to experience California temperatures reaching above 100 degrees (37.7 Celsius) possibly reaching 110 degrees (43.3 Celsius). I am just thankful I am not in Death Valley, California, USA this weekend.

All time record heat on Earth 134 degrees (56.6 Celsius):

Today in Death Valley, California, USA it is suppose to reach near record temperatures of 130 degrees (54.4 Celsius) according to CBS news (1).

Beating the heat:

I am thankful my efforts to follow the True Path of Health lead me to no longer having the feeling like I was going to have sun stroke most ever time I ventured out into the sun, all year round. Hydration is key to helping the body to beat the heat. Drinking a soda is not "real" hydration, although it used to sound so great before I would have 2 or 3 sodas on a hot day. Never satisfied.

According to WebMD (2)

"The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report did not specify requirements for water but made General fluid intake recommendations based on survey data of 97 ounces (that's 11-plus cups a day) for women and 125 ounces (15-plus cups a day) for men. Remember these guidelines are for total fluid intake, including fluid from all food and beverages."

Final words:

Understanding what is affecting the body helps to keep our bodies working well. I learned the hard way how important it was to keep hydrated on a warm day by almost getting over heated. It seems like every summer on the local news there is some one who is roofing or doing something out in the sun and becomes over whelmed by it's affects and is injured or dies.

Take time to take care of yourself by keeping the body hydrated especially on extra hot days.

“Precision Medicine: Is the medical industry creating the best answers or creating more profits?” ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-27-2013

“Precision Medicine:
Is the medical industry creating
the best answers or creating more profits?”

~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-27-2013

My  story:

Not much thought was given to the idea there was something beyond man made medications as an answer to my health issues. I was told to eat healthy and take these 4 man made or altered medications. The interesting part is there is profit in the man made medications and not much profit if any for the “eat right” side. The insurance wasn’t gong to pay for a professional to help me eat “healthy.”  The insurance paid for my medications. The insurance would pay for D2, but not D3 (3) Plants produce D2 and  humans produce D3. Is the medical industry more interested in profits then truly helping people? Looking for the answers that include produce the create the most profit? There is helping and then there is HELPING.

The newest way to help and make a nice profit is precision medicine which finds and exact way to help an individual.

New frontier of precision medicine:

The development of a way to isolate a problem and precisely attack and eliminate it is the newest tool  University of San Francisco presented a promotional video on World's Leaders Drive Precision Medicine Forward at OME Summit (1). Also on CBS news (2)  an interview Dr. Laurie Glimcher, dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, and Dr. Robert Langer, the Koch Institute Professor at MIT about the new tools to fight against diseases like Alzheimer's, cancer, and diabetes. The use of high-tech tools to deliver drugs seems to be the only focus. Glimcher talking about tumors being targeted to specific areas with drug or Alzheimer’s plaques being discovered at the beginning of the 30 year period of time before the symptoms might display themselves and having a procedure to add a gene that stops the formation of plaques. Or Langer talking about micro chips designed to solve osteoporoses by delivering drugs directly to the bones the delivery system controlled by a cell phone.

All of this seems like we are on the TV show The Jetson’s with a future world that most people who lived in the 1960’s watched, with automations taking care of each persons needs and each person taking care of as little as possible with complaints of pushing a button and 10 hour work weeks.  In this case the only examples by each doctor was  is how to deliver drugs better or to do a procedure, not how to understand how the body works and to promote the body to work better.

Help  the body work vs. using drugs to make the body work:

Funding the research projects creates new information and also may direct the results. If the company funding the research wants answers that create a profit that could be the only  results it will reflect. If  it is true science it is the research that leads the results. What happens in the long run to any idea of what works best? If we are only looking for better ways to use a drug or deliver a drug what are they missing? If they are looking for the best way and other ways to create and arsenal of choices with the ability find what works best for each person regardless if it is a drug or some other way.

Final words:

Drugs and procedures are not the enemy. The enemy is the way things are being looked at with the thought of creating better ways to use the drugs or new procedures to administer the drugs only. The over use of something that works and is not the best leaves us all with the short end of the stick. Should we settle for being offered something that is better than nothing or the best answer?

Profit: an amount of funds in excess of operating an organization,  is needed for every organization to survive. Is it best that the selections only given are the ones that may create the most profit or is the best that a fair price is paid with the very best option offered?

Ideally there would be profit created by solutions that truly correct a situation that develops over time. Understanding why the body is creating plaque and it is sticking in the  brain over a 20 or 30 year time span  with the end result of Alzheimer’s is needed to come up with real solutions. To solve the problem before it is a problem. After all if the first symptoms show up over years it would suggest that the body is changing for some reason. The operation system of the body is starting to  failed after 30, 40 or 50 years of living and the person has a problem.  WHY should the answers main focus be have the body to operate with the use of drug only?

Drugs may be part of the solution, but drugs most likely are not the whole solution or maybe not the best solution. Vitamin D can be a drug that cost money or supplements costing some money or naturally produced by exposure to the sun which is free. Drugs are fantastic in an emergency situation when time doesn’t allow for much else to work or be figured out. Precision Medicine should be all about finding the best way to deliver or create the best answers, not just drugs.

“Where did all the “peak sperm.” go?” New study says: 50 year trend shows one in five men sub fertile ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-26-2013

“Where did all the “peak sperm.” go?”
New study says:
50 year trend shows one in five men sub fertile
~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-26-2013

My story:

I have maintained an aquarium with guppies for about 40 years now. The one fact I know is the fish population  changes rapidly and upon occasion all but a few have died almost over night when the tank hit’s a tipping point.

Not so different then a bee colony collapse (1) when the hive looses too many bees there are not enough to do the jobs for the bee hive to survive an in a short amount of time the bee colony doesn’t exist anymore.

With over 7 billion people on this planet Earth I can see a possible tipping point happening if something doesn‘t change for the better.  Many are talking about population control. Just like the fish tank I see the populations hitting a tipping point and a new starting point beginning if nothing changes.  The really question: Are we looking at the signs that really matter?

There is a trend going on right now that men are loosing their ability to produce sperm. If this trend continues we will not have a population challenge we may end up with a survival of the human race challenge.

Male sperm count falling fast:

Protecting our “assets” is important. Knowing what is a true asset is the question. I wrote an article about the dangers of having low or no sperm and the increased chance of cancer (2) I feel this is such an important topic that the human race depends on protecting reproductive assets even with the bulging Earths population of 7 billion and growing. The daily Beast (3) reports on the dramatic changes in men’s sperm count over the last  50 years. The European Science Foundation reported that one in five men age 18 to 25 is “subfertile” with the quality and number of sperm  dropping in the developed world. In 1992 another study  reported that sperm counts since 1938 had dropped by 1 percent. The newest discover that the health of the sperm helps to dictate the health of the child  may just make the sperm quality or “peak sperm”  a priority. If humanity looses our  “peak sperm.” in developed countries how will that affect the world population?

Environmental factors affecting sperm quantity and quality:

The environmental   factors affecting sperm run wide in modern society. According to the CDC (2, 4)  the sperm may be affected by heavy use of alcohol, tobacco, illicit substances like marijuana, cocaine or steroids, environmental exposures, pesticides, and dioxins, hobbies that involve refinishing furniture, repairing cars, painting; building models, or using strippers, degreasers, or non-water-based glues or paints can expose the patient to organic solvents. Hobbies that involve painting, making pottery, making stained glass, or handling, or some medications.

Final words:

The question I keep asking myself is our population explosion being pushed by developing countries loosing an asset of  “peak sperm.”? The evidence is mounting that for 50 years there is a change happening that is creating a problem. How big of a problem only time will tell. Will it be able to be corrected? Like any problem taking care of it soon is always better then letting it grow or not grow in this case.

This subject may make many men feel there manhood is at stake. Performing sexually isn’t the same as being able to father a child or produce top notch sperm. I would hope this thought doesn’t  hold some men back from find out what is the challenge and how do I fix it. It is clear if something doesn’t change we will have nothing to talk about and populations will be affected  and out of our control.

"Healthy men? No baby, Yes cancer in some: Low or no sperm, men get short end of the stick cancer risk increased up to 8%" ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-25-2013

"Healthy men? No baby, Yes cancer in some:

Low or no sperm,
men get short end of the stick
cancer risk increased up to 8%"

~ Cynthia G. Creel

6-25-2013

My story:

It was frustrating for my friends trying to have a baby. Finally after 10 years of trying a baby was born. Not sure, but I  always thought they wanted more and in light of how long it to conceive the first one my thoughts were it just didn’t happen. At the time I thought how difficult it is to want something so badly and not be able to do what most find easy or extra easy to produce off spring.

About 20 years ago when this was happening to my friend the thought there was more to this than just being a little unlucky never occurred to me. Now with a new study showing a possible connection between the ability to father a baby and cancer I have to wonder will my friends one day say he  has cancer?

Study from Stanford University shows new risk of cancer for men who may not be able to father a baby:

Not being able to have a baby may be the low priority when a greater challenge may appear a greater risk of cancer. Stanford University School of Medicine (1) studied 2,238 infertile men from 1989 to 2009 finding men with early diagnoses before age 30 carrying up to 8 times the risk of developing cancer. Also low sperm count increased the risk of developing cancer.

In the United States about 15 percent or 4 million of the male populations is infertile and about 600,000 are azoospermic could be at risk  for testicular cancer and beyond.  About one forth of the men had and  nonobstructive aaoospermia while the others has something that was blocking the sperm from escaping the body.

Michael Eisenberg, MD, PhD, assistant professor of urology at the medical school and director of male reproductive medicine and surgery at Stanford Hospital & Clinics, said “There is evidence that infertility may be a barometer for men’s overall health,”  One-fourth of all the genes are responsible for human  reproduction  development in a baby. The azoospermic men  in the study  also noted and increase in other cancers such as brain, prostate and stomach tumors, as well as melanoma, lymphoma, testicular cancer and cancer of the small intestine. The study wasn‘t able to explain the exact connection to any particular cancer. “Eisenberg said, supporting the notion that azoospermia and cancer vulnerability may share common genetic causes”

“Weaker” sex men or women or both?:

When I was young my father was strong and invincible and in my thirties the reality hit he had developed cancer which meant he may die. He did die in his early seventies, not from the cancer, but a heart attack. His death was less then a decade after my mom’s battle with cancer was lost. I feel like women are looked as the “weaker” sex many times possibly created by the thought that they  them more susceptible  to cancers with national attention  given to breast cancer. Wearing a pink ribbon should tell most that the person is supporting the Breast Cancer Society, but does it tell them women or men or both who are being affected?  Even the thought of breast cancer brings a women to my mind according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2) in 2009, 211,731 women were diagnosed with breast cancer with less than one man for every 100 cases, The highest risk for men and breast cancer is between the ages of 60 and 70. Men don’t suffer or die because they develop cancer? Are those men just as important as the women and do they need just as much help. Or do men need extra help because they may think they are stronger?

Should young men have sperm count test?

In school the thought a man would not be able to produce a baby was not the idea. Only that protection from producing an unwanted baby was needed.

With this new study it seems part of a physical could be a look at the quality of the semen produced by a man. With 4 million known affected by infertile or azoospermic how many men are at risk and never checked until the day they are trying to have a baby? If a doctors aren’t looking then we really don’t know how wide spread a problem this is.

It only takes one sperm to create a baby so even if man has fathered a child, the risk is still unknown unless each man have been identified with sperm production challenges. In my book the earlier the better. So should teens be tested?

Factors that may affect sperm production:

The environmental   factors affecting sperm run wide in modern society. According to the CDC (3) the sperm may be affected by heavy use of alcohol, tobacco, illicit substances like marijuana, cocaine or steroids, environmental exposures, pesticides, and dioxins, hobbies that involve refinishing furniture, repairing cars, painting; building models, or using strippers, degreasers, or non-water-based glues or paints can expose the patient to organic solvents. Hobbies that involve painting, making pottery, making stained glass, or handling, or some medications.

Final words:

Our mind set of cancer affecting only one sex is out dated. If a person is developing cancer they are the “weaker” ones and need the most help prevent the formation of cancer. If a man or women is uninformed it make them weaker than if they understand. With understanding comes a chance of change, a hope to move beyond the risk. It is why when we have cancer it affects everyone either if they are the ones who have developed it or it is a friend or loved one who is battling it.

Like so many other bits and pieces of information lost in space. Doctor’s are only as good as their education and what they are able to remember or to remember to be able to look up on a computer is how well they will be able to care for a patient.

The warning that if a man is infertile or azoospermic may have a higher risk of developing cancer leaves a doctor’s office with out being told that may leave the man with happiness out of  ignorance not fully informed or prepared. It may leave some men with the idea that they don’t have to watch as closely to what is going on with their bodies which may help to lower a risk or early detection of cancer.

Who is faster to protect and save lives the Untied States or Europe? ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-24-2013

Who is faster to protect and save lives
the Untied States or Europe?

~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-24-2013

My Story:

If I had lived in England maybe I would have found out my vitamin D levels were low a lot sooner than living here in America that could have prevented me feeling like I was going to have a heart attack with chest pains and all. England has been proactive in educating  and providing vitamin D to masses according to the BBC (1)  after the increases of rickets was discovered to have increased 4 times in the last 15 years. Also having research supporting the need to pay attention to vitamin D deficiency  with one study (5) looking at vitamin D levels in the United Kingdom in 2006 saying:

“Our study has shown that widespread vitamin D deficiency in a UK inner-city population remains an issue. In concordance with other studies, we found a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Afro-Caribbean and Asians, and, in particular, women. It is clear that more routine screening of vitamin D is needed.”

While the Untied States reports on  the National Instituted of Health (3) shows  “Rickets is rare in the United States”  It seems the Untied States needs to be faster acting to help more people. So far every time my lab slip is filled out to check my vitamin D test the doctor has to write the name of test, on the bottom of the lab slip.  There is no box to check that is pre printed on the form as many other common lab work done. If there is no education with all the studies on vitamin D completed then are doctors looking for rickets or vitamin D deficiency?

I have seen great improvements in the educational materials offered by the governments, yet there is a long way to go. There should be no difference between countries to protect  their population. Prevention of early deaths should be the priority.  Sometimes the education may come from other source.

Good Houses Keeping Seal sometimes says it first to help others avoid problems:

The Good House Keeping Seal has been making a difference over the last 128 years starting in 1909 as seen on CBS Sunday Morning (2) .  The magazine read by about 21 million, has been proactive in helping to create a better world with acts like pushing for change like the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1905. They no loner accepted ads from cigarette companies in 1952 twelve years before the Surgeon General’s report came out. Rosemary Ellis, editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping magazine was quoted by CBS Sunday Morning saying ."Because research was coming out of Europe that very clearly linked cigarette smoking to cancer, and we didn't want that in the magazine," The newest seal of approval introduced in 2009 as the Green Seal which judges for an environmentally-friendly products.

Government paying for unhealthy food for people on assistance:

We currently have much information about sweeteners causing much health problem that there is a concern that the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), formerly know as Food Stamps program, allows those on assistance to purchase soda, however there is no way to track how much unhealthy food is being purchased at this time according to the Huffington post (4).

Final word:

The truth is there should be no difference in protecting the population from one country to the next. Finding a good source is priceless in finding the best way or what to be truly concerted about. When there is an accumulation  of studies and major countries start changing their policies it may be time for every country to pay attention to educate. It seems there are private industry that is acting quicker to the evidence than the larger government. It is one reason to keep yourself well educated and to be proactive verifying the source and the reasons why the statements are being stated. Other wise we could just believe all advertising because we saw it when many companies are just trying to sell what they offer and only focused on what is positive about their product and never even touch on what is the down side. .

The Vitamin D deficiency can cause great damage if not corrected early as well as delaying on recommendations of stopping activates like smoking leaving a twelve year gap between a business deciding smoking was healthy that was  based on studies and the US governments jumping on the band wagon.  The sweetener seems to be the next slow down with the US government approval and paying for sweetened sodas.

It is great when the government is there to help us find out what is best. However that doesn’t always happen so we much all become a little more proactive finding our best path. Realizing just because a government agency or a company says something is ok to consume it may not be true in the long run.

My story:

Amigos, friends for life. They are what life is all about. When there are friends to support one another life can become so much more grand. The synergy of the group pulls everyone forward. However there must be a common thought and movement that moves everyone forward. Just like nature there are many times plants grow in groups helping each other so all can do well.

Cancer proof rats. Next cancer proof people? ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-22-2013

"Cancer proof rats.
Next cancer proof people?"

~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-22-2013

My Story:

As my mom was dying of cancer I had one wish that there was no cancer. Of course at that point in time there were no answers  How this change my life. I knew at some point in the future science could discover how to beat back the development of cancer.  Maybe we are one step closer to reaching an answer of understanding.

Cancer proof rats:

Ever wish you could  be cancer proof? A new research paper (1)  discover  a chemical that makes naked mole rats cancer-proof.  The study will be published in the Journal Nature. The researchers discover the naked mole rats which are small, hairless and subterranean rodent’s tissue is  rich with high molecular weight hylurona, (HMW-HA - a gooey substance produced by the rats) These rodents have never been known to develop cancer even thought they love 30 years.  If the substance was removed the rats become susceptible to cancer. The next step is to test HMW-HA in mice and if successful then  human testing  should begin.

Final words:

The only question I have is there a better way to solve the cancer puzzle? It seems there is a great ability to prevent cancer, however  this new discover may be better ways to eliminate cancer once it has formed. The more we understand the more we need to learn and yet one day we will understand enough to know what is the best way to prevent or cure.  In the mean time....

Will Bee Sperm Bank save Bees or leaving us looking for the female bee? ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-20-2013

"Will Bee Sperm Bank save Bees
or leaving us looking
for the female bee?"
~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-20-2013

My Story:

This week I saw some more bees on the farm in the garden. This year has been noticeably different than last year. So few bees and the ones that did show up have different coloring. My farm is like a safe haven for the wild life, such as bees. They have pesticide free plants, wild plants to farming plants and can munch on grape nectar in the fall. The garden is a bee’s delight, just the way it should be.

Bees dying at an alarming rate:

As I wrote about the bee populate which seems like it is a loosing battle (2) the  U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Apiary Inspectors of America said in “May that more than 30 percent of America's managed honeybee colonies were lost during the winter of 2012-13, up sharply from around 22 percent the previous winter but still close to the six-year average.”

New plan to save the honey bees with a frozen semen bank:

Researchers from Washington State University (WSU) (1) have hatched a new plan to save the bees by creating a frozen semen bank from certain U.S. and European honey bee colonies to be used in genetic cross-breading to produce more diverse, resilient honey bees to help combat the honey bee colony collapse crisis.

Today’s honeybees are loosing ground fast with invasive mites that steal their strength and vector viruses. Along with the possible building up of pesticides in the brood comb and eventually leading to a weaken bees. With the current use of mono-culture agriculture which depends on a very small amount of genetic variants or variety of food which is nutritiously lacking such as corn syrup (2). A combinations of all of these factors are thought create the colony collapse disorder (CCD), where the worker bees disappear and the colony is unable to support itself and the entire bee population of that colony becomes doomed

28 subspecies of honey bees There are 28 recognized subspecies of bees. The USDA gave permission for WSU in 2008 to import honey bee semen to create a stronger bee. Live semen is collected from the male bee, drone and can live up to 14 days a room temperature that can be frozen then injected into a  queen bee's oviduct, to produce more bees.

Final words:

We might be able to live without the bees, but not without a great loss of food. Hand painting blooms to pollinate is not my idea of creating crops, bees do it so much better.

As usual I look for simple answers. The saving of the semen is a great emergency idea, however how is the cross breeding going to affect the bee population? In the long run how would this affect the food production. If the “new” bees are in the wild how will be  prevent cross contamination just like any other GMO (genetically modified organism)

Only if we need to save  the bee population’s by changing the genetics forever should this be done. The one question I keep coming back is have we simply tried changing the food supply back to honey to solve their problems. This would mean more expensive honey and less to be collected but may just save the current bee population so we don't have to go to such extremes as saving sperm keeping the current population untouched genetically.

Only being feed corn syrup seems to have a grand disadvantage for the bees. Limiting the exposure to pesticide is reasonable also. Just changing the bees seems like opening Pandora’s box especially  when all the options are not being taken care of.

"Call for D-action to stop pandemic: Vitamin D deficiency leave some children at high risk that may lead to rickets, cancer and more." ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-20-2013

"Call for D-action to stop pandemic:
 Vitamin D deficiency leave some
children at high risk
that may lead to
 rickets, cancer and more."
~ Cynthia G. Creel
6-20-2013

My Story:

I looked at the blood work that I had asked their doctor to run on my children and both were vitamin D deficient. My only thought was how long had they been this way. What damage was done and would everything return to where it was suppose to be in the near future. Most of their childhood had already passed, I sat and wondered how things might have been very different if just this simple blood test had been part of their annual check up. It wasn’t money that prevented the discovery it was the lack of knowledge from the doctors just to offer or do it and/or for me to ask for it. Nothing to do about it except move forward better prepared in life. Luckily I have seen grand improvements with full participation in college and doing excellent. I feel lucky only time was lost, but if I had to do it over there would be no vitamin D deficiency in my life or that of my children’s. I often wonder when parents complain about their kids if they have been checked for vitamin D levels.

Some children at high risk for low levels of vitamin D:

One study (1) shows  around a 75% vitamin D insufficiency status in some children who are immigrants or  refugees  new to Canada. The author concludes “Newcomer immigrant and refugee children are at a high risk of vitamin D deficiency and inadequacy, which may have serious negative consequences for their health.”

A second study (2) of a  total of 2325 Canadian  pediatricians surveyed each month over about a two year period of time with 140 confirmed cases of vitamin D deficiency rickets (2.9 cases per 100.000)

Vitamin D deficiency rickets is continuing to be discovered in Canada, more often especially among infants who are breast-fed without vitamin D supplementation or darker completion. However if the child was formula fed there was a slight chance they too could be vitamin D deficient.

Pandemic deficiency of vitamin D:

Boston University School of Medicine study (3) states there is a pandemic of vitamin D deficiency. With few food that naturally contain vitamin D, inadequately fortified vitamin D foods and lack of sun exposure that possibly cause predict fractures in adults. The vitamin D deficiency may also put a person at risk of common cancers, autoimmune diseases, hypertension, and infectious diseases.

Final words:

Rickets were not even thought of as a problem for children in the Untied States. However my children did show slight signs when they were young that went unnoticed and untested by their doctor.  One of my adult friends was just recently diagnosed with rickets. It is clear the only way to know if there might be a problem is to take a blood test to determine the levels of vitamin D

Finding out if a child is deficient and correcting that deficiency may save that child from a life time of struggles dealing with the long term effects of a deficiency. I will always wonder how life might have been different for my family if we had always maintained sufficient vitamin D levels. There is not way of knowing, just keeping it “good to go” for the future.

Be more proactive we can all become just a little bit better and the more likely the negative results in life can be avoided. Stand up tall with an upright posture and be proactive.

The solution  helps to keep moving the best direction is to step onto the path of True Health.  Discover a new world.
