“Precision Medicine: Is the medical industry creating the best answers or creating more profits?” ~ Cynthia G. Creel 6-27-2013

“Precision Medicine:
Is the medical industry creating
the best answers or creating more profits?”

My  story:

Not much thought was given to the idea there was something beyond man made medications as an answer to my health issues. I was told to eat healthy and take these 4 man made or altered medications. The interesting part is there is profit in the man made medications and not much profit if any for the “eat right” side. The insurance wasn’t gong to pay for a professional to help me eat “healthy.”  The insurance paid for my medications. The insurance would pay for D2, but not D3 (3) Plants produce D2 and  humans produce D3. Is the medical industry more interested in profits then truly helping people? Looking for the answers that include produce the create the most profit? There is helping and then there is HELPING.

The newest way to help and make a nice profit is precision medicine which finds and exact way to help an individual.

New frontier of precision medicine:

The development of a way to isolate a problem and precisely attack and eliminate it is the newest tool  University of San Francisco presented a promotional video on World's Leaders Drive Precision Medicine Forward at OME Summit (1). Also on CBS news (2)  an interview Dr. Laurie Glimcher, dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, and Dr. Robert Langer, the Koch Institute Professor at MIT about the new tools to fight against diseases like Alzheimer's, cancer, and diabetes. The use of high-tech tools to deliver drugs seems to be the only focus. Glimcher talking about tumors being targeted to specific areas with drug or Alzheimer’s plaques being discovered at the beginning of the 30 year period of time before the symptoms might display themselves and having a procedure to add a gene that stops the formation of plaques. Or Langer talking about micro chips designed to solve osteoporoses by delivering drugs directly to the bones the delivery system controlled by a cell phone.

All of this seems like we are on the TV show The Jetson’s with a future world that most people who lived in the 1960’s watched, with automations taking care of each persons needs and each person taking care of as little as possible with complaints of pushing a button and 10 hour work weeks.  In this case the only examples by each doctor was  is how to deliver drugs better or to do a procedure, not how to understand how the body works and to promote the body to work better.

Help  the body work vs. using drugs to make the body work:

Funding the research projects creates new information and also may direct the results. If the company funding the research wants answers that create a profit that could be the only  results it will reflect. If  it is true science it is the research that leads the results. What happens in the long run to any idea of what works best? If we are only looking for better ways to use a drug or deliver a drug what are they missing? If they are looking for the best way and other ways to create and arsenal of choices with the ability find what works best for each person regardless if it is a drug or some other way.

Final words:

Drugs and procedures are not the enemy. The enemy is the way things are being looked at with the thought of creating better ways to use the drugs or new procedures to administer the drugs only. The over use of something that works and is not the best leaves us all with the short end of the stick. Should we settle for being offered something that is better than nothing or the best answer?

Profit: an amount of funds in excess of operating an organization,  is needed for every organization to survive. Is it best that the selections only given are the ones that may create the most profit or is the best that a fair price is paid with the very best option offered?

Ideally there would be profit created by solutions that truly correct a situation that develops over time. Understanding why the body is creating plaque and it is sticking in the  brain over a 20 or 30 year time span  with the end result of Alzheimer’s is needed to come up with real solutions. To solve the problem before it is a problem. After all if the first symptoms show up over years it would suggest that the body is changing for some reason. The operation system of the body is starting to  failed after 30, 40 or 50 years of living and the person has a problem.  WHY should the answers main focus be have the body to operate with the use of drug only?

Drugs may be part of the solution, but drugs most likely are not the whole solution or maybe not the best solution. Vitamin D can be a drug that cost money or supplements costing some money or naturally produced by exposure to the sun which is free. Drugs are fantastic in an emergency situation when time doesn’t allow for much else to work or be figured out. Precision Medicine should be all about finding the best way to deliver or create the best answers, not just drugs.

Looking at the whole picture always helps me make a better choice. Be more proactive we can all become just a little bit better and the more likely the negative results in life can be avoided. Stand up tall with an upright posture and be proactive. The solution  helps to keep moving the best direction is to step onto the path of True Health.  Discover a new world. Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars  company you want to support to create a world you will love to live in. I do, and I like the world I am helping to create. Together we can create a better life for all to remember over their entire lifetime  Together we can protect what we have so we don’t need to live in a world that is second rate.
