My story:

I had the money and I didn't have the knowledge. I did everything I knew to have a healthy baby. I skipped caffeine when I was pregnant even chocolate and soda. Or anything I found that might put may baby at a disadvantage. The one item that wasn't even thought of at the time was Vitamin d. My children grew up deficient in vitamin d. It wasn't until they were teenagers that I had to ask their pediatrician to test them for vitamin d levels to find they were below normal.

It didn't matter how much money I had back then nothing I did would have fixed the problem unless I knew it existed. I think of all the others though out time that have missed something that was happening to their child  and never understood why in their case the children died an early death. The death could have been one or many causes, but eliminating one may have keep some alive.

Wealthy renaissance’s money didn't help their children stay alive:

Being wealthy today or hundreds of years ago didn't always  help keep the children healthy and alive. One study (1) discovered the burials of nine young members ,  from newborns to 5 year-olds, of the Medici family (16th and 17th centuries)  with the skeletal remains showing bones greatly affected  with bowing of long bones, skull, ribs, and growth plates which all showed signs a metabolic disease linked to Vitamin D deficiency. The authors of the study  concluded the skeletal manifestation of rickets from a vitamin D decency which would have been unexpected for children of a Renaissance elite class family like the Medici of Florence.

Rickets:

Rickets according to the National instituted of Health (3)  are caused by a lack of vitamin D, calcium or phosphates that helps create soft and weak bones from malnutrition or lack exposure to sunlight.  Rickets caused by lack of calcium and  phosphate is rare because they are found in  common foods like green vegetables and milk.

Vitamin d deficiency today may be lead to acquisitions of child  abuse or murder:

Child abuse should never happen, the only thing worse is when parents are faultily  accused. One study (4) found rickets was a perfect simulation for child abuse sighting a case of a 2 ½ year-old Bengali child  found with several fractures who was assumed to have been neglected and abused. He was taken from his parents and placed in foster care.  Over time it was discovered the child had showed signs of rickets.  After around 18 months when the child was 4 years of age he was returned to his parents. A long time to be away from your child for may parents. Time lost that could never be replace and yet a benefit of finding an answer that may have lead to the young boy’s possible death in the future if the vitamin d deficiency had not been found.

Missing the fact a child is vitamin d deficient is only worse when there is a permanent effect as I wrote about in a previous blog (2) of the young mother in England who’s baby died of trauma including a fracture to the skull. While the young mom was on trial it was discover that not only the baby had been deficient in vitamin d, but also the mother was deficient. The baby’s deficiency could manifest itself by  just dressing the baby which could result in stress fractures from the vitamin d deficiency  causing the softening of the bones. All charges of murder were dropped and the young mom’s child was still died from a preventable occurrence of vitamin d deficiency. The effects would most likely will last a life time.

Final words:

Money is only a tool if it is not used correctly we may not be able to protect the ones we love the most as the Medici of Florence found with the loss of 9 children most likely from vitamin d deficiency.

If we do not learn from our past we are destined to repeat it. Centuries ago children died from vitamin d deficiency. Today children die and are hurt by vitamin d deficiency.  It is a simple blood test that will tell if a person is deficient in vitamin d helping parents to avoid a mostly preventable tragedy of rickets.

Be more proactive we can all become just a little bit better and the more likely the negative results in life can be avoided. Stand up tall with an upright posture and be proactive.

The solution  helps to keep moving the best direction is to step onto the path of True Health.  Discover a new world. Help yourself, help the world, step on to the Path of True Health and vote with your dollars  company you want to support to create a world you will love to live in. I do, and I like the world I am helping to create.

Together we can create a better life for all to remember over their entire lifetime  Together we can protect what we have so we don’t need to live in a world that is second rate.
