"Round 2:
Will Venezuela be able to protect the gene pool
with update on Law on Seeds
or will the GMO invasion continue?"

Venezuela is creating Laws that may affect all of the world. GMO's are in the news again.
Once the gene pool of our food seeds is affected to bring it back to the starting point before it was affected is most likely almost impossible or maybe impossible. The world seems to be paying attention to making sure the agricultural gene pool stay untouched by GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms)
Venezuelan updates Seed Law:
The Venezuelan Analysis (1) reports the Venezuelan government will help protect their natural resources of seeds through a new law announced by the Agi-Food Development Subcommittee for the National Assembly Alfredo Ureña.
“Ureña said during an interview with state-run television channelVenezolana de Televisión (VTV).”
“This is a Law on Seeds that is anti-GMOs, because it is not only Venezuela, but the whole world that is saying that we cannot continue supporting GMOs, not only for the use of food and consumption, but for their technology that makes use of agro-chemical fertilizers.”
The new seed law updates a law from 2002 helping to maintain biodiversity and the highest quality of food making an anti-GMO move. However, the up dated law may still leave loop holes for the Bio tech companies like Monsanto, to sell it’s seeds possibly by just registring the seeds. Monsanto also sells its weed-killing glysophate, or Roundup to use on GMO‘s (round up ready seeds) .
However in 2004 Monsanto’s cultivation of 20,000 hectares of Venezuelan land to produce transgenic soybeans was prevented. A national pro-government organization, Benezuela Free of GMO’s that the current law does not protect the seeds as cultural and natural heritage instead encourages the GMO’s. Ureña responded saying that durning a forum on biodiversity starting on June 23 to June 28, the new law and criticisms from relevant sectors will be look at by the government.
Final words:
The Untied States and the world is greatly being influenced by bio tech companies like Monsanto with GMO’s. Laws are being written, but will they be enough and in time. It seems some of the same struggles that are present in the Untied States are happening in other countries. So will the laws be correctly worded to protect Venezuela naturally have or will the loop holes lead to a collapse of the production of non-GMO food. Time will tell of the law will help protect the natural resourses.
The voices of the many of the world that can tame the “Giant” Bio tech companies who seem so hungry for profit they may say all is ok even when it isn’t , just in the name of profit beyond the reality of creating the best for all.
