"Daylight Savings time higher risk of a heart attack  for 1.5 billion reports new study"
~ Cynthia G. Creel

Looking at the clock I realized it was time to get up only my body said it was still way to early. Ugh! Daylight savings time is here again. I just never like the idea of loosing an hours worth of sleep. Going to sleep early doesn't seem to help, just tired. Now it could mean the risk of a  heart attack is higher. There must be a better way. Maybe there will soon be changes to the time change keeping us  all safer.

This time change affects more 1.5 billion people subjecting them to the effects of a shift in time by an hour, one hour less in the spring time and one hour added in the fall. According to a new study from the New England Journal of Medicine(4)  gave new inside that the effect of a heart attack (13)  from the one hour time change by changing our clocks. The effects were at their highest within the first 3 days after the Spring time change affecting more women than men and the fall change affecting more men than women. People 65 years or older being affected the most. With the highest risk on Monday that may have an association with an added stress of starting the work week.

The  American Journal of Cardiology (AJC) (1) also reports a connection between the Spring forward time change create up to a 10%  increase risk of having a  heart attacks. During the Spring time changing the clock by moved it back and we are instantly have a lose of an hour we gained in the previous fall. Loosing or gaining that hour of sleep at 2 AM makes a void in time so we can "loose" that hour on the clock or "gain" that hour just by resting the clock, yet our bodies  still have a biological clock just ticking away unaware of any change. Except it is now being forced into activities that are created by man like getting to work or school on time. In the fall the hour change is less stressful yet there is still a negative effect leading to a possible heart attack.  All of these man made changes are causing many side effect of an increased risk of a heart attack for a few days with the Spring time change with the first day (Sunday) being the highest risk (up to a 10% of heart attack affecting both men and women.
The exact reason why there is this effect of having a heart attack is unknown at this time. The fact is the time change is creating a possible sleep deprivation (11) with one study  supporting that less then 6 hours of sleep increasing the chance of a heart attack, Or with the possibility of less than 6 hours of sleep (10) sending a new message to the body that affects up to 700 genes that control immunity, metabolism, inflammation and stress. This would also include affect 1,855 to 1,481 genes expression  over 24 hours that might contribute to heart disease, obesity and cognitive impairment.

This minor change in time is seen even in our driving abilities with an increase in traffic accidents are contributed to this man made change in time according to the New England Journal of Medicine. (12) Making it necessary for us to take a proactive attitude of bringing extra careful when driving in order to help counter act the effects.

Most people know what it is like to eat at the same time  daily especially if they own a pet. If you don't remember your body or pet reminds you that you just missed a "feeding". Babies have no time keeping skills yet they let you know when they are hungry. This bio-clock is born within us not expecting a sudden change. Yet with a sudden time change there is a drastic disruption  possibly  contributing to the increase in heart attacks. The bio-clock could be a possible reason for the greater risk, ready and waiting for what it usually gets and suddenly nothing. Similar to the affect of jet lag where nothing is at the same time environmentally.  Just like missing the feeding of a baby, who complain loudly when it is time to be fed and mom or dad feeds them. Unlike mom or dad giving a bottle to the hungry baby, our bodies would be looking for the regular environmental getting up at the about the same "sun" time ( about the same time of day matched to the position of the sun in relationship to the Earth). Everything would be unexpected from when we drive to when we eat in comparison to the bio-clock and the clock clicking away the minutes on a cell phone.

Which could mean this change could be slow acting, not giving you a heart attack on the day of the change yet the body unable to adjust to the change and gradually succumb  to the lack of ability to adjust to the change with one reaction being a heart attack or become adjusted with the body stabilizing to the new time schedule with no dramatic effects.  Part of being on a Path of True Health gives the body the ability to with stand change from a man made time change or environmental. It is only when the body lacks the ability to change with events that there is a possibility of a  dramatic reactions.

In this case we know a change is coming so we can prepare, giving our body the best change to not have a dramatic affect. One possibility would to gradually change the scheduled over the week before the time change, so there is no sudden change, There are no answers except the closer a body is to True Health the better it is able to adjust to change giving it the best chance of avoiding a dramatic result like a heart attack.

The question I might propose is if this 1 hour  change affects us does it affect our pets as well? The dog or cat that is used to being fed  at 7 am one day and to their bio-clock it is still 7 am yet the next day the man made clock is at 6 am are they subject to the same negative affects as humans? I do not know the answer to that one. My best thought is keep in mind the change not only for you, but for the four legged friends that keep our laps warm and give us someone to walk with. For the path of True Health has room for humans as well has our favorite for legged furry friends.

Stay safe and live life to the fullest by stepping on to the path of True Health helping to create a True Success of happiness and peace within.
