"Europe stronger than USA?
Cheap food early death"
~ Cynthia G. Creel
I was sitting down at a restaurant one morning and ordered a simple breakfast of a couple of eggs and fruit with tea to drink. I glanced over and say a family of four with for plates piled high with food. One plate would have fed all of my family, if I would have eaten unhealthy food. I just thought where is this country going if the average family is eating that amount of food for one meal, in most cases junk food?
As the focus came back to my table my friend Mary started talking about Europe. I have always dreamed about going to Europe. My brother made it there several times and loved every minute. I got to see beautiful pictures and hear wonderful stories. I was almost the same, not really. Every time I talk to someone who has traveled they tell me so many different stories and tales of how different things are.
Mary must have read my mind when she started talking about how small the portion sizes were there. If you purchased a 32 oz soda (I don't think you could buy that large amount in one container), I think the people of Europe would think "crazy Americans" and just shake their head. The food cost was much higher in Europe so it controlled the portion size of what people were offered. Of course if you were rich you could buy as much as you wanted. Most did not because they just didn't want it.
Many Americans might think that the main course in Europe was and appetizer. "Not only do Europeans eat healthier food, they eat far less of it. So it's not just quality, it's quantity." This all makes a difference in the girth which decreases our lifespan.
As Americans keep tipping the scale the girth goes up and so does the weight. "Americans are becoming so fat the U.S. Coast Guard has had to raise the official definition of “average weight per passenger” from 140 pounds to 185 pounds to protect against the possible overloading of seagoing. The new definition of 185 pounds per person will go into effect on December 1, 2011."
The more obese we are the more unhealthy we are. So does this make us weak unable to think as clearly?
In compare some with Europe (French women) are just light weights. "So the average French woman weighs almost 10 pounds (4.5 kilos) less than the average British woman and almost 30 pounds (13.5 kilos) less than the average American woman."
Does this make Europe stronger, better able to think?
I say yes they are getting stronger and we are getting weaker more unhealthy, less able to think. This affects our ability to compete in the world today. It puts us at risk in our abilities. Food in America is cheap so it is more profitable to larger portions. This is great for business bad for the waist line and untimely bad for the brain. The ability of the brain is strongly connected to the size of the waist.
Maybe that is why the Euro is stronger then the US dollar?
Not to worry Europe is changing. "More fast food restaurants are showing up and all over (Western) Europe, waistlines are increasing and though it will take a while, Europe will find that it's more than their economic clout which is catching up to the US.
So in a few more years if things don't change the US and Europe will all be unhealthy with a lower capacity to think leaving everyone between a rock and a hard place. Luckily we can change and when the US changes so shall the world.
