“New Study: Lack of sleep can let genes run wild creating havoc in the body” ~ Cynthia G. Creel

“New Study: Lack of sleep can let genes run wild creating havoc in the body”
~ Cynthia G. Creel

She sat at the dinner table already tired from a long day’s work. The conversation passed her by as she wished she was already in bed. She thought, I am going to go to bed early tonight and that is that. The dishes were done and the kitchen cleaned she moved to her desk to just check to see if there were any new messages and such. She slid into the comfy black swivel  and took a peek at what was new. The next thing she knew it was midnight, her normal time she seemed to go to bed. Too tired to change she got in bed with her street clothes on minus her shoes and socks, thinking she would change in the morning. There just wasn't any energy to do more than that. She clicked on the TV, she couldn't go to sleep without it. When she was a kid it just naturally happened, where had those days gone, she thought.

About 30 minutes later she was asleep until 5 AM rolled around and she woke herself up snoring. Yet not enough to get up or go back to sleep. She was awake enough to think and do nothing more. In an hour she fell asleep only finding she now could hardly wake up to the alarm. She laid there thinking, one day it is this way the next I can sleep for 10 hours, no matter what I still wake up tired and just not awake, playing catch up all day. She pulled herself out of bed, forcing her body to move, feeling each muscle complain just a little. As she started the new day she thought one last thought before the day would consumed her mind thinking only of what she had to do. It seems no matter what id it just wasn't right for her and she felt like she could do nothing about it. It seems like she had been trying to change for years.

It wasn't that she didn't want to sleep her 7 or 8 hours, it was more like she continually received the wrong signals form the world around her and it just kept her going in circles never having enough and always just a little tired. She laid there and thought there has to be a better way, there must be a way to change to stop this insane actions. I will do better tomorrow.

Once getting a lack of sleep was thought not that big of deal, it would just make you tired for a day or so. Maybe that is one reason there are so many Americans affected by lack of sleep.  A new study from the University of Surrey (1)  research has given many a moment to ponder what the lack of sleep is doing to their bodies. In as little as a week of sleeping less then 6 hours a day there is a new message being sent to the body that affects up to 700 genes that control immunity, metabolism, inflammation and stress. This would also include affect 1,855 to 1,481 genes expression  over 24 hours that might contribute to heart disease, obesity and cognitive impairment.

So there is a lot at stake when quality sleep won’t happen for one reason or another. Add some snoring in there and it is a perfect storm for being unhealthy and letting heart disease take over. (2) There are so many big and little actions that take hold of the body and mind creating inadequate sleep. It can be difficult to pin point without professional help. One of the test of True Health is if a person is able to sleep 7 to 9 hours, wake up alert and hungry, ready for the day. If that isn't happening, consideration of stepping on to the path of True Health may be in order to help avoid or lower the odds of ending up with heart disease, obesity or cognitive impairment. The True Path of Health leads to a body to send strong signals to go to sleep for the 7 -9 hours  feeling young, acts young without considering age. Once a body starts to become unhealthy the side effect is feeling old and becoming unhealthy like not being able to sleep.  I felt old in my forties, now over half a century. I feel young with  success being happy and peace within. Change one day at a time and see where your path of True Health leads and good night, sleep tight.
