“Lost taste:
Bringing back the bold flavors of the past.”

My story:
I woke up one morning and confirmed one of my worse nightmares, everything tasted like cardboard, nothing at all. It was only a few months before I was diagnosed with bad levels of cholesterol and such and felt like I was going to have a heart attack any day. I wondered why I had lost the sense of smell. I did change for the better or worse read on to find out.
The facts:
According to CBS news This Morning (1) a common problem tied to aging is adding more salt or sugar to add more flavor. Science says it is not the taste buds. Arthur a 62 year old had problems since last year after a cold he has to cook by memory asking how things test. There are 10,000 taste buds only designed to taste sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami (savory). Smell is much more important but both have to work together to work right. Take this simple test eat a strong flavor of jelly bean and pinch your nose then before you swallow unpinch the nostrils and the true flavor comes through, from just sweet to the flavor the jelly bean like coffee. Two studies suggest as many as ¼ of people aged 53 -97 and nearly 2/3 people aged 80- 97 have difficulty identifying common orders. Doctors can help by singling out odors and teach the brain to identify it. If you miss the smell of a gas leak or soiled food.
The rest of my story:
I realize now how lucky I am that I found ways to bring my body back to acting like a younger body. Once I stepped on to the path of true health I found over time my sense of flavor came back. My thoughts are there is a third item that is related to the sense of taste besides smell and taste buds. What I do know when my body came in line of where it was functioned best, my taste came back. It was like magic and it allows me to taste the good in food and skip the unhealthy most of the time. Food that is unhealthy taste “fake” and food that is real taste truly alive with flavor.
Final thought:
I hope you find the bold tastes in life. Stepping on to the path of True Health may help you discover your boldness in every bite.
